The African Diaspora: History, Adaptation and Health

African Diaspora Wednesday, September 21, 2016  —

Center for Research on Genomics and Global Health (CRGGH) researchers have recently published an article in Current Opinion in Genetics and Development on the how genomics is illuminating the history and health of Africans and African diaspora populations. Advances, such as the African Genome Variation Project and the 1000 Genomes Project, detail the complexity and dynamic nature of the history of these populations. However, more comprehensive efforts are needed so that Africans and members of the African diaspora can experience the promise of genomic medicine. The impact of this article was recently described in a press release from the National Human Genome Research Institute. (Image: Darryl Leja, NHGRI)
